These signages in a McDonald’s restaurant reminded me of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan’s response back in the 1980s when asked about the improving relations between his country and the Evil Empire: Trust but verify.

Repair and Maintenance Tips from…

  • Keep spare parts if you can.
  • Innovate. Wall-E didn’t have rocket boosters like Eve; so when he decided to come after her in outer space, he used something else.
  • Take care of your body. Unlike robots, it is very hard for us humans to replace vital body parts. And also unlike the last of the human race aboard Axiom, we want to keep on using the swimming pool. Don’t forget to exercise, eat a balanced diet, get adequate sleep, etc.
  • Repairs can take forever. Wall-E has been cleaning up the planet everyday for 700 years and he was not even remotely done. Check out the end titles of the movie for a preview on how long it took to re-write human history in Wall-E’s future.
  • Some things are irreplaceable. Like our dear ol’ planet Earth. After all, it’s the only planet we have. It would be nice if saving the planet becomes a directive in our everyday lives.

I also cried “foul!” or “I’ve been had!” when news came out that parts of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies were digitally altered for broadcast. I too scratched my head in disbelief when I learned about the other faked episode involving the girl who lip-synched her way to international acclaim.

The feeling of being cheated didn’t leave me for a few days. Then, I realized why: it’s similar to a particular big event here in my country. [Read more →]

The Story at Torrey….

June 17th, 2008 by John Knight

… was about NOT giving up.

Both contenders never gave up. One, bidding to be the oldest US OPEN Champion at 45 years of age. And “the” One, probably the greatest golfer and athlete in our lifetime.

Both the story of focus and indestructible will. But someone had to win.

Rocco Mediate didn’t lose. Praises for Rocco!

Tiger Woods won it with his indomitable will.

You keep playing. Whatever it is, you just keep going, keep going forward. All my buddies and I used to, when we were working out, used to always say ‘Four.’ How many more reps do you have? Four. Four-ever. And that’s the idea. You just keep going, and there’s no finish line, and you just keep pushing and pushing…. - Tiger Woods

The 108th US OPEN Golf Championship provides us this lesson.

Never give up.
